Defines Wyoming's criminal offenses for assault, battery, aggravated assault and battery, domestic assault, and domestic battery, along with their penalties.

Domestic Battery

Makes it a crime for a household member to knowingly or recklessly cause bodily injury to another household member, with harsher penalties for repeat offenders.

Domestic Violence Protection Act

Lets a domestic abuse victim petition the court for a free protection order and describes what the order can require, how long it lasts, and how it's enforced.

Temporary (Emergency) Order of Protection

Requires a court to immediately grant an emergency protection order when the facts show a danger of further domestic abuse, with a full hearing to follow within 72 hours.

Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Wyoming can access free, trauma-informed legal help for protection orders, custody, and housing, but the intake process is intentionally routed through local shelters for safety and confidentiality reasons rather than a public phone line.

Who qualifies

Survivors of domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in Wyoming, including affected children, are eligible for legal advice or representation on related civil legal needs such as protection orders, custody, and housing.

How to get help

Two ways in: (1) an Options Call to talk through what legal remedies might help — first contact your local Wyoming DV/SA shelter or member program (full list at wyomingdvsa.org/who-we-are/services-member-programs/, or call the National DV Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or RAINN at 1-800-656-4673 if you can't find a local program); a shelter advocate does a conflict check and connects you to WCADVSA's secure line, available 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, no application needed. (2) For Brief Services or Full Representation, complete the Legal Assistance Application online (linked from wyomingdvsa.org/legal-assistance/legal-assistance-application/) or as a downloadable PDF (English and Spanish) mailed to WCADVSA Legal, PO Box 236, Laramie, WY 82073, or emailed to kosten@wyomingdvsa.org. Your local shelter can help you complete/submit it, or call the Legal Program directly at 307-755-0992 (free interpreter/translation available).
