Mediation, Arbitration & Specialized Courts

Open to Wyoming farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural or natural resource managers involved in a dispute — including ag credit issues, neighbor-to-neighbor conflicts, farm/ranch transition planning, USDA adverse decisions (FSA, NRCS, RD, RMA), land or equipment lease issues, USFS grazing permit disputes, organic certification appeals, and other ag business disputes.

You initiate the process yourself. Go to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture's mediation program page (agriculture.wy.gov/mediation-program) and either fill out the online 'Contact Us for a Mediation' request form, or contact the Mediation Coordinator directly by phone or email to describe your dispute. The coordinator will discuss whether mediation fits your situation and, if so, arrange for a trained neutral mediator to facilitate sessions between you and the other party. Mediation is confidential, and if no agreement is reached you retain full access to the normal legal process. For USDA-related disputes there are often statutory deadlines to request mediation after receiving an adverse decision letter, so contact the program promptly.

The Chancery Court is available to businesses, trusts, and commercial litigants with qualifying civil disputes — generally cases where the amount in controversy exceeds $50,000, or matters involving business organizations, trusts, or requests for equitable/declaratory relief.

A business or its attorney initiates a Chancery Court case by filing a complaint together with a completed Civil Cover Sheet with the Chancery Court Clerk in Casper, through the court's eFiling system (registration required). The court provides model forms for a summons, case management order, protective order, and pretrial memorandum. Most pre-trial proceedings are conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams, though in-person proceedings can be held in any Wyoming county. Given the complexity and dollar threshold, most filers are represented by counsel. For general Wyoming court information, forms, and self-help resources, wyocourts.gov is the main portal.
