Consumer Protection & Debt

State agencies for consumer complaints, utility and insurance disputes, bankruptcy self-help, and credit counseling.

Which state agency handles a consumer complaint in Wyoming depends entirely on what you're complaining about — utilities go to the Public Service Commission, insurance disputes go to the Department of Insurance, and general scams or unfair business practices go to the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit. None of these agencies can force a company to pay you or act as your personal attorney; they investigate and can pressure a business to respond, which is different from winning your money back.

Who qualifies

Open to any Wyoming consumer with a complaint against a business or person involving personal, family, or household purchases; does not handle business-to-business disputes, Lemon Law issues, or landlord/tenant matters.

How to get help

First try to resolve the issue directly with the business. If that fails, complete the online consumer complaint form and attach supporting documents such as proof of payment, correspondence, or contracts. The office reviews all properly filed complaints and may forward the complaint to the business for a written response.
